What you’ll be doing
ABOUT THIS POSITION Do you want to Create and implement the technical elements of game features? Do you enjoy working with other technical designers, programmers, and colleagues from other disciplines? If yes, the Senior Technical Designer role at Digital Extremes may be what you are looking for. The Senior Technical Designer will be responsible for designing and implementing new game modes, quests, AI, and events. They will collaborate with designers, level designers, and other departments to iterate on features, bringing them to a shippable state, and will be responsible for maintaining content after it ships. They will also provide mentorship for Junior Technical Designers, teaching them scripting best practices and helping them learn the Evolution Engine. The incumbent will need to have experience in game design, a strong proficiency in Lua or similar scripting languages, and basic knowledge of C++ as well as Visual Studio. RESPONSIBILITIES Game mode / Mission / Quest / Event design and implementation AI design and implementation Assist other designers with reproducing and fixing bugs Collaborate with other departments to fulfill scripting needs Be willing and available for firefighting Contribute to a positive work environment by getting involved with all departments, understanding their roles and interacting with the team on a regular basis to help gain a rounded perspective of the project Mentor Junior Technical Designers Other responsibilities as assigned REQUIREMENTS 5+ years of experience in game design/development A university or college degree in computer science, game design/development, or equivalent game development experience Strong proficiency in Lua or similar scripting language Basic knowledge of C++ and Microsoft Visual Studio Good communication & problem solving skills PREFERRED EXTRAS Familiarity with a commercial game engine (Unity, Unreal, etc.) Experience working on projects with live service production schedules Experience with multiplayer/networked games Please note that the salary range mentioned in this job description should serve simply as a guide.
